And the Best New Menswear Designer Winner Is...

via GQ

Fresh off the presses: Alexander Wang was just announced as GQ's Best New Menswear Designer. Alexander is the fifth designer to receive this honor, but it's not just about bragging rights.
There's also some money. A lot of it—$50,000 to be exact, to be used toward his line. In addition, like all of the finalists, he will receive a mentorship with Docker's, Bloomingdale's, and the editors of GQ and will also design a piece for a limited-edition Docker's capsule collection, which will be sold in Bloomingdale's locations in the fall and be featured in our September 2011 issue.
One more resounding round of applause for all this year's finalists and thank you to guest American designer judge Tommy Hilfiger. Check back here soon for a priceless OH SHIT! moment caught on camera just now when creative director Jim Moore presented the winner with the check.
UPDATE: Video of Alex being presented his prize; "I feel like you guys have... popped my cherry!"

How to Pick Up Straight Chicks at a Gay Bar (VIDEO)

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. But straight dudes, if you're hard up, it may not be too late. There's a familiar theory: straight women hang out in gay bars. Therefore, straight dudes who don't have much luck with the ladies should have better luck picking up women at a gay bar. Right?
Well, I was more than happy to test this theory. So I went with my best straight friend and co-worker Ben Hoffman from "infoMania" and hit some of West Hollywood's hottest gay nightspots.
Will Ben find love, or even a ph

'SNL' Mocks British Movies With 'Don' You Go Rounin' Roun To Re Ro' (VIDEO)

via The Huffington Post

The very funny Russell Brand hosted "Saturday Night Live" this weekend and poked plenty of fun at his mother country in a few different sketches. The best in our opinion was this parody of British crime and gangster movies, "Don' You Go Rounin' Roun To Re Ro," with Bill Hader and Fred Armisen. It's the most British movie ever made, we think. We don't really know what's going on because it sounds like they're speaking another language. Also: Russell Brand in dreadlocks does not look as weird as you'd think!

Dries Van Noten Bleached Denim Derby

Selectism - dries-van-noten-denim-shoes-01

Purists, look away now. Seriously. You won’t like this. Everyone else should be able to enjoy a fun take on the derby by Dries Van Noten. They’ve fallen in love with bleached denim this season, but this is the first time we’ve seen it used like this on shoes. If it’s been your life goal to get your feet featured on a Tommy Ton style roundup, we’d recommend these. (Browns)

Marc Jacobs Teams Up With Playboy

Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs is teaming up with Playboy! No, not in that way. Apparently there will be no nudity involved, Women's Wear Daily reports.
Two real Playboy bunnies sporting original costumes from the vault will be part of the window display at the designer's Marc by Marc outpost on Bleecker Street in Manhattan. And Jacobs created three Marc Jacobs + Playboy t-shirts that will retail for $35 with all funds going to Designers Against AIDS. And, wait, there's more -- read the rest of the details at WWD.com.
So why the sudden interest in the men's magazine? The fashion newspaper speculates, "It could be Hugh Hefner's upcoming 85th birthday, Robert Duffy's fascination with the Hef or maybe Valentine's Day." Whatever it is, the tee might be the one piece of Playboy merchandise we'd ever wear. What do you think?

Banksy: Oscars May Ban 'Exit Through The Gift Shop' Director

vi The Huffington Post

Street artist Banksy doesn't show his face in public -- and as a result, the Oscars may kick him to the curb.
Oscar Nominations Banksy
The elusive artist directed the street art documentary "Exit Through The Gift Shop," which was nominated for an Academy Award. It's a great achievement, but presents one major problem: Banksy doesn't show his face in public.
Rumored to wear a monkey mask while making rare public appearances, his antics have those behind the Oscars worried -- and ready to make contingencies in case he wins.
Academy executive director Bruce Davis talked about the issue to The Wrap. "If that film wins and five guys in monkey masks come to the stage all saying, 'I'm Banksy!' Who the hell do we give it to?" he asked rhetorically. Because of those worries, the artist will most likely not be allowed on stage.
"We suggested to them that it might be a good idea that if he did win, one of them would accept in his place - that it would not be dignified for the Academy to have somebody come up wearing a monkey's head," Davis said, referring to conversations with the Jaimie D'Cruz, the film's producer.
Whatever happens, prepare for some monkey business.
